
Desktop Computing Services provides ongoing computer support for a wide range of departments throughout Johns Hopkins Medicine. These services are provided on a fee-for-service basis and are commonly referred to as “LAN Services.” The team provides support for more than 15,000 customers across 200 departments. Services include the following:
- Assignment of a specific LAN Administrator or Desktop Technician for each customer
- Access to a Desktop Manager and LAN/WAN Architect for technical planning and service management
- Purchase guidance, setup, and configuration of PCs and mobile devices
- Access to shared file space for departments and workgroups
- Access to individual file space starting at 5GB
- Automated software distribution for more than 150 applications used at Johns Hopkins
- Deskside, remote control, and telephone assistance for most computer issues
- Coordination of computer repair services
- Installation of all important application and operating system updates
- Protection against viruses and malware
- IT consulting for any departmental IT project, including vendor liaison
- Support for PC, Mac, and many mobile devices
