What is OneDrive for Office 365?

OneDrive is the personal cloud storage component of the Office 365 product suite that allows users to store and share documents and files from any device with an internet connection. In addition to 1 TB of free storage space per user, OneDrive also allows you to share documents with colleagues easily – even those who may not be affiliated with Johns Hopkins or have JHED accounts.

How can I sync my OneDrive to my computer?

The OneDrive for Business sync app lets you synchronize your OneDrive library to your local Windows pc. This sync app is available with Office 2013 or with Office 365 subscriptions that include Office 2013 applications. If you don’t have Office 2013, a free download of the OneDrive for Business sync app is also available.

To sync OneDrive for Business, sign in to Office 365, select OneDrive at the top of the page, and then click Sync.

How much space do I have in OneDrive?

Users are provided 1 TB of free online storage.

Do the Office Web Applications require Internet Explorer?

No, Office Web applications will work across multiple platforms and browsers including Safari and Firefox, too.

How can I share my files and folders in OneDrive?

In the OneDrive app, swipe down or right-click a file or folder, tap or click Share, and then pick a sharing option.

Invite people

This option lets you give specific individuals or groups permission to items, so that you can remove individual permissions later if you need to. Another benefit of sharing items this way is that recipients can quickly access them from their Shared view on the OneDrive website.

  1. Enter the email addresses of the people you want to share with, or tap or click Add people to pick people from the People app.

  2. Add a note to recipients if you want.

  3. To change the permission level, tap or click Recipients can edit files or Recipients can view files.

    NOTES

    • If you choose Recipients can edit files, people can view your items and use Office Online programs to edit Office documents, all without signing in. To make other edits, like adding or deleting files in a folder, people need to sign in with a Microsoft account. Recipients can forward your message to other people, and anyone who receives the message will also be able to edit the items.

    • If you choose Recipients need to sign in with a Microsoft account, recipients will need to sign in with a Microsoft account before they can view items you're sharing. Even if you choose this option, you can still invite people without knowing their Microsoft accounts. You can use any email addresses you have to invite people, and if some recipients don't have a Microsoft account, they can create one for free.

  4. Tap or click Send to save the permission settings and send a message with a link to the item.

Can I recover OneDrive files that I deleted?

To recover deleted OneDrive files, check your Recycle Bin on your desktop, or go to the OneDrive website and tap or click the Recycle bin link in the lower-left corner.

Are there any limits with OneDrive?

Yes. You can sync up to 20,000 items in your OneDrive library, including folders and files, and in any library, you can download files up to 2 GB.
