There are several mailing lists used to inform technical professionals within the Johns Hopkins community about system outages and other IT-related events and issues.
The jhu-firstalert and jhm-firstalert mailing lists are intended to inform customers of system outages that may have a wide impact or that may affect critical systems. FirstAlert messages are typically relatively brief and are used to provide general information about an outage and its expected duration. While there is often significant overlap, the jhu-firstalert list focuses on IT-related issues that may affect University customers, while the jhm-firstalert list focuses on issues that may affect customers at the medical institutions. These mailing lists are open to anyone in the Hopkins community who has JHED credentials and an email address in JHED.
The sc_priorityoptional mailing list distributes email messages that are automatically generated whenever a Help Desk Priority 1 event is created or updated. Priority 1 events are defined to be those affecting critical or enterprise-wide systems, or events widespread events affecting multiple customers. Priority 1 alert messages may be generated frequently during an outage event and often contain highly specific technical information about the cause(s) and/or step(s) being taken to resolve a particular problem. This list is open to anyone in the community who has JHED credentials and an email address in JHED.
The Institutional Computing Standards Committee (ICSC) provides a forum for IT managers and administrators across Hopkins to consider matters of common concern. First established to develop policies and standards, the ICSC is now the principal means for sharing IT issues and concerns at Hopkins. Its focus remains on IT and communication infrastructure, yet it also emphasizes user support, communications and security. The ICSC mailing list is called icsclist and is used to inform technical professionals about IT-related topics and issues at Hopkins. Subscription to the ICSC list requires the approval of the list owners.
To subscribe to any of these lists, users can go to the mailing list web site and log in with enterprise credentials. In the “Search for a List” box enter the list name; i.e., jhu-firstalert, jhm-firstalert, sc_priorityoptional, or icsclist. When the list is displayed, click on the list name. The list page will be displayed. Scroll down and on the left side of the page, in the List Operations section, click on the "Subscribe" link. To unsubscribe from a list, follow the same steps but click on the "Unsubscribe" link instead. More information on managing your mailing list subscriptions can be found in the Help pages on the mailing list server.
