Outlook Live is a new email service offered to Hopkins students that will replace JHEM for Hopkins student email services. Outlook Live offers a 10GB mailbox (the standard JHEM mailbox size is 100mbs), 5GB to shared collaborative workspace, 7GB to online secure storage and other features you would expect to find in a modern email system. Freshmen students for many of the Hopkins schools were included in Outlook Live when they arrived last year. We are now ready to include existing students who currently have JHEM mailboxes.
The Migration process will allow students to transition from JHEM to Outlook Live. By requesting an Outlook Live mailbox your JHEM mailbox will be disabled in the near future.
1. Request an Outlook Live Mailbox:
Log into the Johns Hopkins Enterprise portal at http://my.johnshopkins.edu. Go to the myJhed tab
In the Applications box click ‘Request an Outlook Live Email Account’.
After requesting an Outlook Live mailbox, an Outlook Live Terms of Service screen will appear in the portal. Please read thru the instructions and scroll down to the bottom of screen to accept the terms of service.
Please note that you will be given a new Windows Live id and an initial Windows Live password. The Windows Live id will be your Johns Hopkins Login id - email@example.com and the password will be in the form of MMDDXXXXX where MMDD is your 2-digit birth month and 2-digit birth day and XXXXX is the last five (5) digits of your social security number.
Your new Outlook Live account will be provisioned within the next 2 hours. In order to see your new Outlook Live quicklink you may have to close all instances of your browser and log back in to the portal.
Once your Outlook Live mailbox has been provisioned the Outlook Live icon will be in the portal under Messaging.
The first time you click on the Outlook Live icon you will be prompted to go thru the Outlook Live First Time Login Process. Log into Outlook Live account by using your initial Outlook Live password ( mmddxxxxx). You will be prompted to set a new Outlook Live password and asked to personalize your account by selecting and answering questions that can later be used to identify you in case you forget your Outlook Live password.
Additional information should be entered into your Outlook Live account to help identify you for Self-Service Password Resets. Please follow the instructions on entering an alternate e-mail address and secret question at:
5. Migrate Mail from JHEM to Outlook Live:
If desired your JHEM email can be copied over to your Outlook Live mailbox thru the Outlook Live Web App connector. Calendars & Contacts cannot be migrated thru the Web App connector but a process is in place if JHEM contacts need to be migrated.
When you accept the Outlook Live terms of serivce Hopkins system email will start delivering email to your Outlook Live account within 24 hours. After you click on the Outlook Live icon your JHEDLid@jhu.edu or JHEDLid@jhmi.edu alias will be changed to deliver mail to Outlook Live. If you have other aliases you can change their routing address to Outlook Live or wait until your JHEM mailbox has been disabled. All aliases routing to JHEM will be changed to Outlook Live before your JHEM mailbox is disabled.
