IT@JohnsHopkins would like to take this time to welcome you to The Johns Hopkins University and also introduce you to ResNet, the free high-speed Internet network service we provide to all students of our institution. ResNet provides wired and wireless network service, and technical support service for student’s computers that are not covered under the Johns Hopkins Mobile Computing Program (MCP) Laptop Service.
ResNet wired service is available in all student rooms, in University housing. ResNet wireless service is currently available in the Charles Commons, McCoy Hall, Wolman Hall, AMR I, and Homewood Apartments. Our efforts to bring wireless service to the remaining housing facilities are still ongoing.
The information below will help to help ease the effort getting your student’s computer onto our network.
JHU offers Symantec Anti-Virus for free to all students, faculty, and staff with no registration or associated renewal fees. JHU highly recommends installing the Symantec Anti-Virus application that we offer on any PCs used on our network. We understand that there are other options available, and that you may possibly be using one of those options for protection; however, we would highly recommend that you use one of the links below to download and install the free Symantec Anti-Virus we offer. The links below will prompt you to supply the student’s JHED ID and password.
Symantec Anti-Virus for Windows XP/Vista/7:

Please note: The windows install packages are completely silent meaning no messages whatsoever will appear, and it will reboot the device after installation.
You can complete the ResNet registration process if you have already been given a dorm and room assignment. The link below will prompt you to supply the student’s JHED ID and password.
At the website listed below, we have instructions available to setup Windows XP/Vista/7, Mac OS X 10.4 - 10.6, Linux, iPhone, and Droid devices for the wireless network.

If you have any questions regarding antivirus or setting up a device for the wired or wireless ResNet registration process prior to your arrival on campus, you can contact ResNet at
Help will also be available every day during move-in and Orientation. ResNet will host a network assistance event with in-person staff to assist students and parents with any assistance needed to setup a device for our network. During that time, we will be primarily located in the basement of AMR II, in the Social Lounge. We will have information and signs available throughout the campus to help you get the assistance you may need.
If you are having trouble with your computer, you can call 410-516-HELP for support.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
ResNet Staff
