Information for Incoming Freshmen

Hello, and Welcome to The Johns Hopkins University ResNet. Here at ResNet, we are committed to easing the technology part of your transition to being a Johns Hopkins student, as well as resolving any issues you may encounter. ResNet, the JHU Student Residential Network, is the free high-speed wired and wireless Internet network service available to students in University housing, and is also the technical support service we provide for students.  We have several methods of getting technical help while you are here.

AMR A & B Residents - We upgraded the wireless in your Dorm room by installing a new wireless device in every room. For Wired and Wireless Connectivity in these buildings, please check out this one page document: AMR A & B Network Connectivity


If you would like additional infromation or help, please choose one of the options below.

Method 1: Help during your move-in and orientation period

During your move-in and orientation period, we have set up an on-site SWAT Computer Help Center located in the AMR II basement Social Lounge, to help if you have trouble connecting to our network or have any other computer/IT issues. The on-site SWAT Computer Help Center will be available during the dates & times specified below:

Friday, August 25th12pm - 4pm
Saturday, August 26th10am - 4pm
Sunday, August 27th12pm - 4pm
Monday, August 28th10am - 4pm

Method 2: Visit the Technology Center

In addition to the on-site Computer Help Center located in AMR II during move-in, another available option is to visit the Technology Center located in the basement of Garland Hall. The Technology Center is not only open during the move-in and orientation period, but it is also open throughout the year.      

Their normal days and hours of operation are:

Monday - Friday from 9:00am - 4:00pm

Saturday - Sunday   Closed

(Tech Store will be open Saturday, August 26th from 10am - 4pm & Sunday, August 27th from 12pm - 4pm to help during the move-in and orientation period)


Method 3: Contact the Johns Hopkins IT Help Desk

The Johns Hopkins Help Desk is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for assistance. They can be reached by phone or online.

Call: 410-516-HELP (410-516-4357)

Online through the Hopkins Portal at: , click the 'Helpdesk' icon in the left column and select the 'Report a Problem' item to submit a self-service ticket.
