MATLAB Introduction

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING MATLAB AS OF AUGUST 1, 2011.

The Matlab TAH (Total Academic Headcount) license is now in effect. This license is provided at no cost to you.

You will have the option of standalone use, network/concurrent use (you may setup up your own network as we will no longer have a Matlab license server), or both.

The TAH license covers all Hopkins owned machines on campus for faculty, staff, and students.

For off campus installations on personal machines, TAH covers all faculty and academic staff. Students are NOT allowed to install Matlab on their own machines unless they are considered Academic staff (i.e. students that are employed by Hopkins doing research work). We will need departmental verification for research Students. Students who are not considered academic staff may visit http://www.mathworks.com/academia/student_version/?BB=1 for their personal use copy.

DEPARTMENTAL ADMINS: You may compose ONE email that states that the Student is employed at Hopkins and using Matlab for research purposes. That email can be forwarded to all eligible students and they can attach it when requesting a license via software@jhu.edu.

You can contact software@jhu.edu to request your license file/code. Please indicate whether you need a standalone or network file/code.

For a standalone license, we will need your first/last name, and your Hopkins email address.

For the network license, we will need first/last name, email address, the platform and the Mac address of your Server. Please visit http://www.mathworks.com/products/matlab/requirements.html for Server requirements.

Once you/your machine is added, you will receive an email from Mathworks with instructions to create a Mathworks account. In case you already have a Mathworks account, you can login and see your new license.

The Matlab software will be available for download off the Mathworks site (latest and prior versions).

Below is a list of the toolboxes. We have included the most widely used toolboxes within the Hopkins community. Any additional toolboxes you may need can be purchased directly from Mathworks. For standalone licenses, you’ll have to get standalone toolboxes, and for concurrent licenses you’ll need concurrent toolboxes. Those toolboxes will easily co-exist with your TAH license (you will have access to Mathworks support if applicable).

For current users of either our standalone or concurrent license there will be a minimum of a 30 day transition period, so you’ll have until at least September 1st to move to the TAH license.
